What is Bullying?
Bullying is any overt act(s) by an individual or group of students directed against another student(s) with the intent to humiliate, harass, or intimidate, the other person.
There are two types of bullying:
Direct: When the bully confronts the victim face to face.
Indirect: When the bully acts behind the victim’s back.
Further, bullying can be divided into 3 categories:
Physical Bullying: It includes hitting or kicking the victim, taking or damaging the victim’s property, pushing, stealing, hiding somebody’s property, making somebody do something they don’t want to do.
Verbal Bullying: Verbal bullies use words to hurt or humiliate another person. Verbal bullying includes name-calling, insulting, making racist comments, and constant teasing.
Emotional/Social Bullying: Spreading rumors, excluding in games, and talking behind others back, refusing to talk to someone. Spreading lies and rumors about someone. Making somebody felt left out or rejected.
All forms of bullying involve a power imbalance between Bully and Victim which can be size, number, status, and more.
